WordPress comes with a menu-management system called the navigation menu.

Navigation menus are links to the main pages of your website.

In most of the themes, it can be found on the top as a horizontal row.

When you are starting a blog or a website with only a few pages, then you can keep all your posts in a row.

But if your website is big, then the best way to go about it is to have a navigation menu

Steps to Add a Drop Down Menu to WordPress site

  1. Step 1: Choose a theme which supports the drop down menu. Unfortunately, not all themes support the drop down menu. You can see the theme’s documents and information to check if it supports drop down menu
  2. Step 2: Once you have a theme that supports the drop down menu, you now have to create a Navigation Menu. If you already have a menu, you can skip this step. This you can do from the Dashboard. On the Dashboard, go to Appearance and then click on Menu
  3. Step 3: Click on the ‘Create a new menu’ link
  4. Step 4: Put a name for the menu and click on the ‘Create Menu’ button. WordPress will create a new empty menu for you.
  5. Step 5: Once that is done, add links to your new menu. You can do this by simply selecting the checkbox against each page or post you want to put on the menu.
  6. Step 6: After you have selected the content that you want to add, click the Add Menu button.
  7. Step 7: Arrange the menu items using the drag and drop option. The Parent item will appear on the main menu. Under the Parent item, every page or post that you put becomes a menu item.
  8. When you hover your mouse over the parent item, the menu item will appear in the drop down menu.
  9. Once you are satisfied with the menu structure, click on Save Menu.
  10. Step 8: Go to the Menu Settings and choose the menu location. There will be different display locations. In most cases, people choose the Top Menu location.

You can now visit your website to see your drop down menu active.
